Full name: Calliope Inca Burke Porter. (Yes, for real. No, I didn’t make it up, it’s not a stage name. That’s what my parents named me. Yes, Calliope is a Greek name. No, I’m not Greek – nor am I Incan. Yes, there is a story behind the name, a few actually, feel free to ask me about it. It’s OK if you mispronounce Calliope, I’ll just correct you.)
Current project (as of 6/19/11): Shooting the independent short Fitting, performing in WTA’s production of Anna Carini’s All Are Welcome, in pre-production for SiNNERMAN’s fall show, wedding attendee extraordinaire.
Hometown: Asheville, N.C.
College attended: University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. (Go heels.)
First theatrical role ever: I don’t quite remember. I think I was a bird in a dance theatre show. Some other early roles: A guard of the Wicked Witch’s castle in Wizard of Oz (I had wanted to be Toto so, so bad.) A kid in the anti-cold war peace play Peace Child.
Favorite indulgence: Travel.
Most bad-ass moment ever: Opening nights of Girls Wear Shirts and The Incredibly Famous Willy Rivers.
Favorite vice: Wine in the afternoon with friends… and on into the evening.
What could you simply not live without? Johannes.
What was the name of your old imaginary friend? Tiger. He was a tiger.
Favorite special skill: Finding and keeping the best friends in the world. (I just got lucky with all the great family.)
A bad habit: Hamming it up whenever I’m encouraged by such things as a camera or late-night shenanigans.
